Stockport Silver Band News
Stockport Silver Band is very proud of their progress. This past year has seen SSB continue to grow in numbers and improve in playing ability under the direction of Stephen Shawcross. The confidence of many players has improved and hence the general standard of the band. Attendance at rehearsals has improved greatly too.
Stockport Silver Band have grown from 13 to 21 regular players over the last year. Unfortunately we have just lost Kirsty McLaughlan who has decided to take a break from playing. Kirsty proved to be an excellent Principal for the band these last few years and will be sadly missed by us all.
In 2008 Stockport Silver Band performed a total of 17 jobs and, over the summer months, were performing two concerts per month with a high in May when the band won an award, jointly with Reddish Prize Band, for one of their performances at the Whit Friday Marches. Many of the jobs are likely to become regulars in addition to the performances for St Matthew's Church, these include Wythenshawe Hall and Park, Cale Green Park , Vernon Park and Poynton Show.
We put the money raised from the past year's concerts towards buy a new set of ties and the remainder will be put towards a new set of jackets for the band.
And Stockport Silver Band would like to offer their thanks to St Matthew's Church for the provision of the Church for our rehearsals.
